Committee Chair: Charlie Nitschke

The goal of the Evangelism Ministry Team is to work to build up the Body of Christ, help to bring newcomers into the church while proclaiming the gospel to those who cross our path of life.  All saints and sinners are welcome.

Overall our team focuses on providing a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere to all visitors and our HTLC families to promote an encouraging and Christ centered experience within (and outside) our church activities. We are all God's children and we strive to communicate the message of support, comfort, encouragement and acceptance to all.

Some of the things we do to support this is to welcome visitors and provide information about HTLC's Mission and Vision through:

  • new member brochures,
  • provide brochures on "What Lutherans Believe",
  • reach out to visitors who wish to learn more about our HTLC family with visitations (bringing bread and welcome bags),
  • encourage visitation to our church by creating an invitational banner on the back fence of the church who are exiting the Ballad Health hospital's parking garage in downtown Kingsport, etc.

We support our HTLC families by:

  • providing coffee ministry and snacks before services,
  • encourage use of name tags, and
  • keep in contact with homebound and nursing home members through phone calls and visits, etc.

During the COVID shutdown, we've setup a telephone tree to contact our families and friends to offer comfort and encouragement during these isolating times.

In 2020, we drove the completion of a new pictorial directory that helps our HTLC church families, friends and new visitors to identify our members and staff so we can connect faces and names more easily.

Through the activities, events, and programs, it is our hope that new members feel welcomed and current members feel appreciated.   New members are always welcome to join our team--we need to grow.

A special thanks to members of our team who have worked to make this another successful year.

Team members for 2020 were: Gene Childress, Carol DeGreen, Marty King, Charles Nitschke, John Pollak), and Flo Weierbach (council liaison).
