Stephen Ministry

Committee Chair: Loretta Nitschke

Mission:  The Stephen Series is a system of training and organizing lay persons for one-on-one caring ministry in their congregation.

Ministry Details:  Holy Trinity has been a Stephen Ministry Congregation for 36 years!

Stephen Ministry is an interdenominational ministry in that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-on-one care to those in our congregation who are experiencing a variety of life circumstances.  Stephen Ministers make visits weekly for as long as there is a need for a listening ear (often 1-3 years).  Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry, so unless you are a Stephen minister, or someone receiving care, you won’t hear a lot about Stephen Ministry at HTLC.

Stephen Ministers commit to 2 years of service after completing their 50 hours of training.  Topics covered in training include confidentiality, listening, distinctive Christian Caring, providing spiritual care, feelings, assertiveness, maintaining boundaries, crisis theory, grief, recognizing need for mental health professionals, depression, suicide, and monthly supervision.
