Outreach Efforts – A significant amount of effort and time is put forth in Outreach by HTLC members. Shopping for and stocking food for our Sunday meals program as well as maintaining the driving routes, drivers, and cooks is done by Betty & Jim Dickert. Coordinating and preparing for our participation in Family Promise is done by Carolyn & James Chandler. Joanne Kleven buys breakfast & lunch food when we host Family Promise guests. Managing, buying, and delivering school backpacks and Sox and Undies Sundies program is done by Jerry

Sunday Meals Program - An average of 30 meals were delivered each week for 52 weeks in 2020 with 63 members of HTLC being involved as cooks (15) or deliverers (48). Meal recipients receive an Easter lily at Easter and a poinsettia at Christmas. We budgeted $3,900 on food for this program. Thanks to Betty and Jim D. who manage our Sunday Meals Program.

Family Promise – HTLC hosted homeless families with minor children one week in January 2020. We provided a place to sleep and eat for 3 families (4 adults and 3 children). There were 35 adult members of HTLC, including Pastor Scottie, who helped by supplying meals, doing laundry, being evening or overnight hosts and by helping with set-up or take down of cots. As churches began shutting down early in 2020 due to the virus, Family Promise was forced to switch to leased apartments to keep families.  Host churches were asked to supply meals to the families during their assigned week. We provided meals one week for 3 families (4 adults and 5 children) who were housed in the apartments. Eight HTLC members provided meals and Concordia Lutheran provided a meal plus gift cards to cover an additional meal and snacks. Thanks to Carolyn and James Chandler who manage our Family Promise program. In November a craft sale fund raiser was conducted at our church for Family Promise. Thanks to Jeannie Fortier and Judy Harper for organizing and managing this fund raiser.

Second Harvest Food Bank – HTLC members donate food through the Little Red Wagon. Joy Wood transports our donations from the Red Wagon to the Food Bank for us. Thank you Joy.

Food Bags - Small bags and boxes of non-perishable food are kept in a closet at the entrance of the Gathering Room. This food is for people who come to the church in need and also for HTLC members to keep a bag in their vehicles for encounter with people in need on the street. In 2020 15 bags were given away. This project was initiated two years ago by Judy Harper and Jo Rita McMurray. Non-perishable food is donated by HTLC members. Jo Rita makes sure the bags are full and available.

Salvation Army Weekend Serving Program – HTLC normally participates on Saturdays during the year serving lunch at the Salvation Army. Early this year because of the pandemic Salvation Army stopped feeding people in their dining room and began handing out food bags at their back door. This change in operation eliminated our participation in 2020.

KCMC (Kingsport Community Ministry Center) – KCMC changed their method of operation due to the pandemic. They now only see people in need by appointment and only by the director. This change has eliminated the need for HTLC volunteers. Bob Bergemann is president of the KCMC board.

Homeless Children in Kpt. City School System, & Children In Dickenson County – An annual project for our congregation is to supply various items for the homeless children in the Kpt. City School System and children in need in Dickenson County, VA. In 2020 through the HTLC congregation appeal, we were able to purchase 100 school backpacks and in August donated them to the Kingsport City Schools homeless students program and to children in need in Dickenson County, VA.  Each year near Christmas time members of HTLC also donate to these two groups through our "Socks and Undies Sundies program and we are doing this again in 2020. Thanks to Jerry Kleven who manages both of these programs.

Outreach Budget – Friends in Need, $1,000; CASA, $1,000; Sunday Meals, $3,900. Meals-On-Wheels of Kingsport, $500; Family Promise, $3,500; KCMC, $6,000; Providence Medical Clinic, $500; Kitchen of Hope, $750; Hope Haven, $500; Oasis, $500; Hunger First, $750; Salvation Army, $1,200.
